According to the announcement made by the Portuguese Automotive Association (ACAP), with an increase of 86.2% compared to the same period of the previous year 126.578 vehicles were produced in the period of January-May 2018. It was observed that passenger vehicle production increased by 123%, commercial vehicle production increased by 13%, heavy vehicle production decreased by 28.9%.
To the increase in motor vehicle output was greatly contributed by the production at the Autoeuropa plant. The production of the T-Roc model, which started production in August 2017, accelerated in April.
96.8% of total production is exported and the automotive sector makes a significant contribution to the foreign trade balance. 91.4% of exports were made to EU countries with more than fifth (20.7%) to Germany, %14.2 to France, %12.1 to Spain, and %10.9 to Italy. The largest export outside the EU countries was to China, and the share of the Chinese market is 2.7%.
