Between 2019 and 2023 years, almost US$ 4,5 billion among bolts, screws, nuts and similar metal fasteners were imported by Brazil. Considering the US$ 533,85 already buyed until the first half of 2024, the trend by the end of this year is to exceed US$ 1 billion, as in 2022.

Going back to 2019, when US$ 847 million were imported on total, the China keep itself first with market share of 21%. Considering the last five years plus the first half of 2024, China increased its share to 27%. Therefore, counting since 2019 until now, its average share among fastener purchases in Brazil has been 25.33%. Soon after, next comes the USA, 16.6%; Germany, 9.71%; Japan, 9.35%; Italy, 7.08%; France, 5%; Taiwan, 4.1%; South Korea, 3.2%; India, 2.3%; Sweden, 2.2%.

By other side the Taiwan Strait (South China Sea region), the Taiwanese exporters are facing a sharp drop in sales to Brazil, falling from 5.4% in 2019 to 3.1% by June 2024.

One of the most big global players in the sector, the Asian nation is betting on the sophistication of its fastener production chain, increasing its capacity to serve more demanding and high-tech industrial sectors, achieving a benchmark position in the market, acting in fine tune with social and environmental demands (ESG, CBAM), such as the subtitle “Green Fastening, Precision Attaining”, presented during the Global Fastener Forum, an event held simultaneously with the recent edition of the Taiwan Fastener Show, on June 2024.

Note: Formosa (beauty) is named given to Taiwan still around 1600 by explorers from Portugal, fathers of the same language used by Brazilians.
